Prekindergarten

The goal of prekindergarten is learn all the skills needed to be a successful reader and be familiar with the routines and procedures of a classroom.

READING READINESS: Our curriculum is Sing, Spell, Read, and Write by Pearson Learning.  We emphasize shapes, colors, alphabet sounds, rhyming sounds, and spatial concepts such as over, under, top, bottom, etc.  Listening skills include verbal instructions.  Motor skills covers a wide range  of activities that include: tracing, circling, writing, and left to right direction.

MATH:  Math curriculum includes number recognition from 1-20.  We teach size comparison.  Introduce the concepts of addition and subtraction, classification of objects (alike and different), time readiness, money recognition (coins), calendar, and counting the days of the school year.

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Social Studies curriculum includes units on the fire station, police officers, safety, and special days (Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, etc.)

SCIENCE:  Science focuses on units in weather, the seasons, magnets, and insects and animals.  A unit on the lifecycle of butterflies is demonstrated in class.

RELIGION:  Concordia Religion uses Bible stories from creation through the prophets, the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and the apostles to teach that God is always with us and is a source of comfort and friendship.  We also have memory work from the Bible each week.

ART:  In art, we emphasize large motor coordination through easel painting and free drawing, and small muscle coordination through cutting, pasting, and coloring.

MUSIC:  Students sing for joy, praise, worship, and fun.

SHOW ‘N TELL: Children are encouraged to bring one item from home to share with the class.
